Master Sen is one of Flying Tortoise's chief instructors, with a martial arts career beginning in 1989. She has over 20 years of Xingyi experience, both in Tianjin and Beijing styles.
This workshop will cover Dragon Xingyi basics, including the Five Elements, as well as the Five Animals form and self-defense applications.
Xingyi Quan (Form-Intention Fist) is a classical Chinese martial art with origins dating to at least as early as the late Ming Dynasty (1627-1644). Characterized by abrupt, explosive movements and aggressive stepping, Xingyi is known for being one of the more pragmatic arts to quickly learn effective self-defense
Due to its specialization in short-range force and small curriculum, Xingyi is frequently paired with other martial arts, with one of its most notable innovators being Li Ruidong. Li was an expert in a multitude of styles, and known as a virtually unbeatable fighter in the martial arts hub of Tianjin. As an extension of his martial pragmatism, Li developed many mixed forms that integrate the principles of multiple styles, including a “Five Animals” set which combines the linear power of Xingyi with Bagua, Baji, and Pigua. The version of Xingyi in Tianjin is often referred to as "Dragon Style Xingyi.”
